Maciej Świeszewski. Permeation – Jacek Żuławski Award Laureates and Students from Prof. Maciej Świeszewski’s Studio
The titular “Permeation” refers to the multilayered relationship between Master and Students. This is not merely a presentation of achievements, but above all a manifestation of the continuity of the creative process, the exchange of ideas, and the mutual inspiration between generations.
At the heart of the exhibition are works by Prof. Maciej Świeszewski , which enter into dialogue with the students’ works. The exhibition reveals the process of shaping individual visual languages under the guidance of a renowned artist and educator.
Maciej Świeszewski (b. 1950) – an outstanding painter and educator associated with the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, where he has run a diploma studio for over three decades. Since the early 1990s, he has served as vice-president of the Daniel Chodowiecki Foundation established by Günter Grass at the Berlin Akademie der Künste.
He is the author of acclaimed canvases, including “Armenia,” “Lech,” and “The Dead Class.” His opus magnum is the monumental “Last Supper” (1995–2005), which has been on display in the arrivals hall of Gdańsk airport since 2016. In 2022, the weekly magazine Polityka recognized this work as one of the ten most important achievements in Polish art over the past three decades.
The artist’s works have been exhibited at numerous shows, including in the USA, China, Great Britain, Belgium, and Ukraine. The artist lives and works in Gdańsk and Sopot.
The exhibition is currently on view at the Witkacy Theatre in Zakopane and will run until March 30, 2026. We encourage you to visit the website: Witkacy Theatre
