Opening of the Stanisław Szukalski Museum in Gdynia

Report from the opening of the Stanisław Szukalski Museum in Gdynia!

We thank everyone who joined us for the grand opening of the Stanisław Szukalski Museum at 53 Orłowska Street.

It was an exceptional day – full of emotions, encounters, and first impressions of experiencing the work of one of the most extraordinary Polish artists of the 20th century.

The event was attended by special guests featured in the famous documentary about Stanisław Szukalski – Struggle: The Life and Lost Art of Stanisław Szukalski (available on Netflix):

  • Prof. Lechosław Lameński, author of numerous publications about Stanisław Szukalski,
  • artists from the USA – Suzanne and Robert Williams,
  • American collector and heir to Szukalski’s legacy (Archives Szukalski), as well as his close friend – Glenn Bray with his wife Lena,
  • film directors: special effects creator Gabriel Bartalos and Ireneusz Dobrowolski, author of the film about Szukalski produced for Netflix.

The museum was born from the private passion of a collector and art enthusiast – Krzysztof Ziemann, who also serves as its director.

During the inauguration, he received special honors: from the American guests – an impressive floral arrangement, offered on behalf of George DiCaprio, who unfortunately had to cancel his participation in the event at the last moment.

There was also a gesture from local artists, who presented the director with a symbolic sculpture in the shape of a horned heart – a direct reference to the Horned Heart Tribe, an artistic movement created by Szukalski himself.

The Museum is open for visits from Wednesday to Sunday, from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

In our permanent exhibition “Szukalski: The Selfborn / Samorodny” you can see:

  • over 50 sculptures,
  • over 350 paintings and 300 photographs,
  • medals, coins and insignia of the Horned Heart Tribe,
  • archival photos, letters and unique publications,
  • the Master’s original sculpting tools.

The exhibition showcases not only the mastery of craftsmanship but also the extraordinary imagination of the artist who called himself the Selfborn.

Tickets are available at the museum’s ticket office.

We cordially invite you – come and immerse yourself in the world of Stanisław Szukalski’s art!
